Controller requirements

Check controller compatibility: single Joy-Con play isn't confirmed. Plan one full controller per player to be safe.

Same console: Up to 2 players
Controllers needed: Two sets of player controls: one per player
One Joy-Con each?: Check controller compatibility: not confirmed by Nintendo or the publisher

Notes: Two players on one console need one compatible controller each. Nintendo names Joy-Con for the Gyro Battle and Calorie Contest party modes but doesn't confirm one Joy-Con per player for normal fights.

Buying advice

Plan on one full controller per player (a pair of Joy-Con or a Pro Controller) unless you confirm the game supports single Joy-Con play.
Online play on Switch generally needs a Nintendo Switch Online membership.
