Many heroes named Link, one legend. Start with Breath of the Wild, then follow the threads back through time.
An adventure series about exploring Hyrule, solving puzzle-filled dungeons and saving the kingdom.
Across many eras, a hero named Link and Princess Zelda face an evil power — usually Ganon. Each game is a new chapter of this repeating legend.
Link (a different hero each era), Zelda (also different each era) and Ganondorf/Ganon.
Every game reinvents how Zelda plays, from top-down puzzles to huge open worlds.
Loosely. Nintendo's official timeline splits into three branches after Ocarina of Time. Most games stand alone; Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are a true two-part story.
Just two to start: Breath of the Wild, then Tears of the Kingdom. Add the others in any order.
Start with the modern two-part story, then try the shorter classics. You do not need the official timeline to enjoy any of them.
Story order lists games by when their events happen inside the story. Beginner order is the order we recommend playing them, which is often closer to release order because later games are written assuming you played earlier ones. Playing in story order can spoil twists or start you on an older, harder game.
Link wakes from a 100-year sleep in a ruined Hyrule and sets out to defeat Calamity Ganon.
Islands rise into the sky and something stirs beneath Hyrule Castle. Link explores the sky, the surface and the depths.
Direct sequel — play right after.
When rifts swallow Hyrule and Link goes missing, Princess Zelda herself sets out to save the kingdom.
Shipwrecked on mysterious Koholint Island, Link must wake the Wind Fish to get home.
Link lives above the clouds in Skyloft and dives to the land below after Zelda falls from the sky.
Zelda fights alongside the heroes of the Imprisoning War, the ancient conflict hinted at in Tears of the Kingdom.
Switch 2. Backstory to Tears of the Kingdom.
The battle against the Calamity 100 years before Breath of the Wild — with a twist that lets events turn out differently.
Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom each have a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. If you already own the Switch version, an upgrade pack is cheaper than buying again. Older classics come with a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, not as separate purchases.
Switch 2 runs most Switch games, but not all. Check Nintendo's compatibility information for older titles. Availability on the Malaysian eShop is not yet verified for every game.
