The story, simply explained

What is it?

An action RPG that mixes original characters with Disney and Final Fantasy worlds.

What is the story about?

Sora, a boy who wields a key-shaped sword called the Keyblade, fights the forces of darkness to protect his friends and the worlds.

Who are the main characters?

Sora, Riku and Kairi; Donald and Goofy; Roxas, Aqua, Terra and Ventus; and the villain Master Xehanort.

Why play it?

Fast, flashy combat through famous Disney worlds — with a surprisingly emotional story about friendship.

Is the story connected?

Very. Almost every game and movie adds pieces to one long story, including the side games.

How many games should I play?

7 playable games plus 3 movies for the full story to Kingdom Hearts III. They are all inside three collections, so you only buy three things — or one physical box on Switch 2.

The order most fans recommend for a first play: mostly release order, because each game is written to be revealed in that order. Movies are marked — you watch them, you don't play them.

What to buy

Switch 2: buy KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I–III] (physical or digital) — it contains everything up to Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind. Do not also buy the three individual bundles; they are the same content. Switch: KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX now runs natively; HD 2.8 and III + Re Mind are cloud versions that need a constant internet connection. Melody of Memory is sold separately.

Switch 2 runs most Switch games, but not all. Check Nintendo's compatibility information for older titles. Availability on the Malaysian eShop is not yet verified for every game.
